The laced-up Roman greaves and the hobnailed shoes are on Martino, and he made them too. He had told me about them by phone, but I was glad to go and see them and I'm glad Holly took photos.
Marty's in many of the photos, but not all.
For those familiar with UNM, this is the south side of Johnson Field. They've added lights. To the left in some of the photos area additions to the recreational services building(s) (used to be Johnson Gym and then the pool, but there's more) and to the right are the newest dorms, Redondo, which are where the tennis courts used to be.
Is this an "organized" group? I know my son would LOVE something like this. I wouldn't even know where to look for it!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is very cool!
ReplyDeleteNevermind. I DID know where to look after all!
ReplyDeleteIt's the Society for Creative Anachronism. It's where I met my husband, 30 years ago, and the kids grew up in it. Marty bought that chain mail with his own money. The leg armor was a gift from his knight (he's squired to Duke Artan, whom I've known since he was 21, I think, and some of the armor was Kirby's. Kirby used to fight too, and might again someday.
ReplyDeleteKeith's out there, and he had forgotten his tunic too (which is odd, because neither of them is that kind of guy), but Martino had been over visiting and it broke up their routine. I didn't know to take Keith's too, so he was wearing his big kidney belt over a white t-shirt, poor guy. He's in those first few combat photos, on the right.
Very cool to see them suited up. It's great that Marty recovered so quickly from the mono! Healthy guy. It took me much longer.
ReplyDeleteHe's not fully recovered, but he's famously strong like his dad (physically and constitutionally). He got tired earlier than some of the older guys did. He dropped his sword two or there times there near the end (like let it fall out of his hand without meaning to), and when his regular crowd went out to eat afterwards, he opted to come home.
ReplyDeleteHe's better, but not altogether back to speed.
